Winter Wonderland
We at Nelson Ranch wish everyone an Amazing 2018!! We are now settled in Winter Time Feeding Mode. All the cows were moved to home pasture feeding areas. Nick and Brian feed all the cows everyday a nutritonal meal blend of Alfalfa hay, Bluegrass straw and Wheat straw. Each cow gets about 30 + pounds of Hay per Day. In addition to the hay a balanced mineral salt mix is provided to maintain the pregnant cows needs. It takes about 4 hours for both Nick and Brian to feed all the cows.
After feeding, all the other chores are done to get ready for Feb/March Calving season. Removing the manure from the calving pens, fixing the barns and fences and plowing snow for access. With the shorter winter daylight and cold weather simple projects take longer to complete. Just last week the temperature dropped to -11 degrees one fine morning , and today we started out with 11.
Several of our Family Members served tasty Prime Rib Roast Beef for Christmas Meal or for Today's New Year's Meal.
Nelson Ranch is so fortunate to be able to raise and care for cattle to provide quality tasty beef products like the Prime Rib Roast for people to enjoy and cook for this Holiday Season and for the Coming 2018 year.
