Welcome Spring!

Cynthia  "RancHer Selfie"

Welcome Springtime!

Ranchers are a vital part of providing beef products which are an important source of healthy protein we need to help fuel our bodies.
This year's calving season was long and challenging for the Nelson Ranch Crew. Among the usual long days/nights we had to deal with lots of issues with unusual muddy & snowy weather conditions.  Focusing on a positive Attitude with lots of Confidence &  Perseverance  helps us go thru these trying times. We had to be very creative to use alternative management techniques to face the many obstacles. We even had to move the main cow herd calving pen to a different pasture to make the mud issues less worrisome. The calves were getting stuck in the mud and getting Hypothermia. The straw and feed we gave them just disappeared in the extreme muddy conditions.  Finally it is drying out a bit and we really welcome Spring!

Beef products are an important source of protein we need to help fuel our bodies.

Sometimes we have to bring Calves in by the Stove in the house to help them Warm Up,  then we take them back to the Barn.

Had to Tube several calves due to the muddy conditions. We give them Colostrum milk within the first 6 hours of birth. They have difficulty getting up in the mud and drinking the cows milk due to Hypothermia conditions and muddy udders.
